COVID-19 is a particularly serious threat to nursing homes and other long term care facilities. There are a total of six nursing homes that fall under Governor Abbott’s order to test all staff members and residents at Texas nursing homes. Some Garland nursing homes have been tested by State Emergency Medical Task Forces, some through contracts with private medical providers and some with the assistance of the City of Garland. Facilities with positive residents or staff implement infection control plans to contain the spread of COVID-19. Some common elements of infection control plans include excluding positive staff, isolating COVID-19 positive residents to a single wing of the facility, designating caregivers to COVID-19 positive residents, restricting facility access and temperature/symptom screening daily for residents and staff. Other control measures may be implemented based on the facility design and resources. The Garland Health Department provides guidance and resources to facilities with positive staff or residents. The table below depicts testing status at each facility. This information will be updated regularly as information becomes available.
